O-soto-gari (Major Outer Reap)

The key to this throw is placing weight on uke's leg that is being attacked. Often in competition the sweeping leg initiates the attack. A popular and effective combination involves O-soto-gari followed by Sasae-tsurikomi-ashi or Hiza-guruma. O-soto-gari can be countered with O-soto-gari, O-soto-gaeshi, or Harai-goshi.
