Princeton Judo Continues Its Rise.

 

The 2010 New Jersey State Senior & Junior Judo Championship was held at the Princeton YWCA and hosted by the Princeton Judo Club. Over 190 participants competed in the annual event March 3, 2010. Participants ranged in age from 5 to 50 and represented 20 Judo schools from around the state.

 

The Cranford Judo Karate Center brought home the most medals with 20 medals. Rounding out the top club medal winners were Tech Judo of North Bergen with 14 medals and Princeton Judo with 13 medals.

Princeton Judo was led in the gold medal category by returning State Champion Kory Beach in the Boys 15-16 year old Advanced 120lb division and first time gold medal winners Richard Lynch - 9-10 year old Boys Novice Heavyweight division and Marc Diamondstein - Men’s Novice 220lb and over division.

Returning State Champion Michelle Arias also of Princeton Judo competed in a division two weight classes higher than her own and placed second in the Women’s Advanced 125lb division. Michelle had previously gone two years without a defeat. Princeton students also brought home 7 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.

Princeton Judo coach Cory Cuomo feels “proud of the effort that all Judoka who participated gave. Stepping on the mat is a great accomplishment in itself. By placing 13 of 18 qualified competitors Princeton Judo continues to demonstrate growth in both number and quality of competitor.”

On Sunday 10/11/09 the Cranford Judo Karate Center hosted their annual Fall Invitational. Princeton Judo only had 1 participant that day.  I would like to congratulate Sean Eriksson on his second place finish.

This past weekend several Princeton Judo Club Judoka competed in the 43^rd Annual East Coast Judo Championships held at NJIT in Newark. This is one of the largest tournaments of its kind held in this area. Congratulations to all who competed.  Special acknowledgement should be given to our 3 medal winners. Please be sure to congratulate them at our next class.

On Sunday March 1st, 2009 Princeton Judo had 12 Judoka compete in the New Jersey State Judo Tournament. The top qualifiers in each weight class qualify to compete in the United States Nationals and Junior Nationals.  I would like to congratualte the following Judoka for their effort, their desire to expand their Judo experiance and their willingness to take a chance. Congratulations to Michelle Arias on winning her division at the Tech Judo Invitational Tournament held in North Bergen, NJ on February 1st 2009. I would also like to acknowledge the particpation of Jun Kitagawa, Charles Talbot, Steven Levites and Gregory Kasriel. Each of these individuals contributed to their growth in the sport of Judo by taking the challenge of competition. It is by pushing ourselves to take these challenges that we can measure how far we have come as Judoka as well as men, women, boys and girls.
