Financial Aid Information

Bates Scholarship Fund

Those needing financial assistance may apply for Pearl Bates Scholarships in person at the Registration Office, or by calling the Financial Aid Coordinator at 609-497-2100, ext. 319. Financial aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and only if funds are available. Applications must be received at least ten days prior to the start of classes. Applications with unanswered questions will not be considered.

Congratulations – Mike Tusay 2011 US Open Masters Champion

Congratulations to Mike Tusay on his first place finish in the US Judo Open held in Florida over the weekend of July 4th, 2011. Michael’s first place finish was in the Masters 81 kilogram, 31-39 year old division.

With a few exceptions we are at the end of the 2010/2011 tournament season. This past season we have had many more judoka compete than in the past and look forward to the 2011/2012 season which will kick off on September 17th (Seniors) and 18th (Juniors)at NJIT in Newark with the East Coast Judo Championship.  

I would like to take this time to congratulate Alaine Abuan, Michael Tusay and Michelle Arias on their exceptional seasons. Listed below you will find their 2010/2011 accomplishments they hope to expand upon with participation in events such as the World Judo Collegiate Championships, the United States Junior Nations and the US Open. Please join me in congratulating our club mates. 

Alaine Abuan Holds the black belt rank of  Shodan or first degree black belt and competes in the women’s advanced – 52 kg division.

3 Medal at the 2011 Liberty Bell Judo Invitational

On Saturday and Sunday March 26th and 27th, 2011 nearly 700 athletes competed at the Liberty Bell Judo Classic, a USA Judo Senior Point Tournament held at the Academy of New Church – Asplundh Field House, Bryn Athyn, PA.

 

Three Princeton Judoka competed in this prestigious event in preparation for the USA Judo Senior Nationals being held next month in Orlando Florida and USA Judo Junior Nationals being held this summer in Toledo Ohio.  

 

Bringing home a Gold medal in the Girl’s Advanced 13-16 year old 48 kilogram division was Michelle Arias. Michelle’s next goal will be defending her 3 time New Jersey State Judo Championship crown next week at the 2011 New Jersey State Judo Championship being held at the YWCA Princeton in Princeton New Jersey on Sunday April 3rd. Michelle is also preparing for the 2011 USA Judo Junior Nationals being held this summer in Toledo Ohio and the US Open.  

 

Following up on her Gold medal finish at the 2011 Pedro Challenge in Wakefield, Mass in February and her Gold medal finish at the 2011 National Collegiate Judo Association Championship held at West Point Military Academy in early March was Alaine Abuan. Alaine brought home the Bronze medal in the Women’s Elite 52 kilogram Division. Alaine’s upcoming goals will be competing in the 2011 New Jersey State Judo Championship on April 3rd, the World Collegiate Judo Association Championship being held in China in late April as well as competing in the 2011 USA Judo Senior Nationals being held next month in Orlando Florida.

 

Princeton Judo club instructor Mike Tusay continues his march towards the USA Judo Senior Nationals with a Gold medal finish in the Men’s Masters level 81 Kilogram division. This Gold medal finish follows his Silver medal finish at the 2011 Pedro Challenge in Wakefield, Mass. Princeton Judo Club Instructor wins National Collegiate Judo Championship.

On March 12th, 2011 the U.S. Military Academy at West Point had the privilege to host the 2011 National Collegiate Judo Association Championships. One hundred and thirty seven novice and advanced Judo athletes representing 33 different colleges and universities attended this year’s event. With the support of USA Judo, this event attracted high level collegiate athletes. Representing the College of New Jersey was Alaine Abuan; an instructor with the Princeton Judo club. Ms. Abuan won the Gold Medal in the Women’s Advanced rank 52 kilogram weight division. Her accomplishment has qualified her for an opportunity to participate at the World University Judo Championships in China later this year. Ms. Abuan’s additional recent accomplishments include a Gold medal finish at the 2011 Pedro Challenge and a Silver Medal finish at the 2010 United States Senior Nationals.

Location: Princeton YWCA 59 Paul Robeson Place, Princeton, NJ 08540 

Entry fee: $35.00  Must be received by October 3, 2011 . Extra Division $10.00. Late fee   $45.00   Spectators $5 – Adult and Child.

Eligibility: Open to current members of USJF, USJI, USJA. You must present a current USJF, USJI OR USJA card.  USJF registration will be available at tournament

Rules: Current IJF rules will be used with the following modifications. Pre 1994 rules regarding safety zones and out of bounds area. 3 minute match. No chokes ages 12 and under. No arm bars for junior competitors 16 years of age or under or senior competitors under the rank of Sankyu. 

Weigh in times

9:00 – 9:45am            All Junior Boys 5 – 12 year olds as well as All Junior Girls and All Senior Women. 

11:30 – 12:00am -  Junior Boys 13 -16 yrs     1:00 – 1:30pm   All Senior Male Divisions     

 Awards – All Juniors 16 and under will receive a trophy.

Senior Men -                1st, 2nd and 3rd place for all divisions.

Senior Female –            Round Robin – 1st, 2nd and two 3rd place.

All Juniors –                  Round Robin – 1st, 2nd and two 3rd place.
