Seoi-nage (Shoulder Throw)

This is one of the most popular judo throws. Its modifications are based on grip differences. Ippon-seoi-nage (shown) involves a one handed grip and requires a strong sleeve pull and tight locking of uke's arm. Morote-seoi-nage begins with a standard two-handed grip and Eri-seoi-nage uses a two-handed grip (lapel and sleeve) on one side of the uniform. All work well in combination with O-uchi-gari, Ko-uchi-gari, Tai-otoshi, or Sasae-tsurikomi-ashi. Can be countered by Ura-nage, Tani-otoshi, or Sukui-nage.
